Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, I
didn't see a lot of Chevrolet Corvette convertibles
until the day the rich kid my grandmother was nanny
to was given a StingRay on her 16th birthday. She promptly
totaled the car in an accident, insurance replaced it
and she was happily on her way again!
I remember fantasizing about the cars, though. Especially
during the 1960s when the "Route 66" television
show, an hour-long drama featuring Tod Stiles and Buzz
Murdoch two young guys who travel around in a
1960 Corvette convertible in search of adventure, was
popular.
Possibly no other car has been so romanticized for both
men and women women looking for the "perfect"
guy in a red Corvette and men trying to be that perfect
guy.
General Motors capitalized on the popularity of the
Corvette by publishing individual catalogs every year
to feed our dreams, hoping that someday our pocketbooks
would allow those dreams to become a reality. Here is
