Don't like what you see in the car
showroom or on the roads? When cars were first introduced
over one hundred years ago, it was common for a mechanically
inclined person to build their own car from scratch
or from available parts. Compared to today, it was simply
motorizing a horse drawn buggy or wagon.
In the 1920s and 1930s you could easily buy everything
necessary to build a car from mail order catalogs and
supplies available. Or you could modify an old car to
your requirement. Hardware stores actually created their
own make of car by assembling parts and putting their
own branding on them. The Model T Ford was the most
modified car of the time speedsters, race cars,
specialty trucks, off-road modifications for the snow,
swamp and beach and military vehicles like half-tracks
and even tanks. After World War II it was hot rods,
customs, streamliners, jalopies, sprint cars, dune buggies,
dragsters, sport cars, etc. It was possible to build
any vehicle in your garage.
Is there a car you cannot identity or something your
father built many years ago? Maybe it is one of these
below...
