I never thought about collecting literature
on hearses until a collector pulled up to my house in
a hearse many years ago. The casket was a novel way
of storing his collection, which included literature
on ambulances, limousines, taxis, police cars and hearses.
Once I began putting professional car items on our catalogs,
I discovered there was a demand for them. As I inventoried
them, I noticed how interesting the brochures are with
all the coachbuilt special features and high quality
craftsmanship. When coachbuilders of the pre World War
II period ceased to make luxury cars for individuals,
they continued on after the war, building professional
cars.
Catalogs from the professional car builders are very
rare because few of these cars are built due to the
very limited number of buyers. Many Cadillac and Lincoln
enthusiasts acquire professional literature in their
collections. But there are other makes you may not suspect
of being used by the coachbuilders including most American
makes and some foreign. Here is an interesting selection
of professional car brochures that may interest you.
