Ford has always dominated the old
car hobby in the United States of America and still
does in America's heartland. In the 1950s it was the
Model "T", and with time the hobby moved to
the Model "A" and progressed through the Flathead
Fords on to the Mustang. If you read Hemmings Motor
News in the 1960s as I did, you will remember it was
divided into two sections — 'Ford' and 'other makes'.
When I started McLellan's Automotive History in 1960,
I was greatly interested in Ford — the Flathead
models in particular, 1939-1940 Fords specifically.
However, I ruled out Ford literature as being too commonplace
to be considered 'collectible' and concentrated on the
more exotic prewar and postwar makes. It was true that
Ford, Chevrolet, Plymouth, etc were neither luxurious
nor sporty. Then, as if on cue, Mustang, Corvette, Camaro
and Barracuda came along to change that!
By 1990 our catalog contained literature for all makes,
all countries and all years. Today, Ford literature
is our most populated literature make, and Mustang for
every year is in stock as long as we can find new inventory.
It is simply good business to supply collectors with
the literature they are looking for.
