Having grown up in the 1940s and 50s
my automotive nostalgia has been for that period, although
I have a historical prewar car preference now. We all
tend to gravitate toward the cars of our youth and,
for most collectors, that is for the cars of the 1970s.
Thirty years seems like a long time to those youthful
30 and 40 year olds who admire the cars of the 1980s
and 90s. Those of us who are 60+ think of the cars of
the 1950s and 60s in the same way. Today the average
old car enthusiast is about 50 years old and, with the
kids gone and retirement not so far away, they are contemplating
those cars of the 1970s.
