Note geologist on-the-job

Going through my grandparents and parents old issues of "National Geographic" as a child in the 1950s, I became fascinated with dinosaurs. As if it were just yesterday, I remember reading about Dr. Roy Chapman Andrews' famous Asian expeditions to the Gobi Desert, beginning in 1922, to search for fossil remains of dinosaurs. His successes are well documented in many of the magazines.

But I also noticed that the caravan of trucks which were frequently photographed were always Dodges. He praised them for their reliability and said he would use nothing else. I imagined myself becoming an archeologist and joining that caravan of Dodge trucks across the desert. Fifteen years later I found myself crossing the desert in Libya as a geologist exploring for oil in, yes, a caravan of Dodge Power Wagons. Sometimes you get what you wish for.
