Taxi Cabs, Police Cars & Emergency Vehicles
By Sharon McLellan

On our 10th anniversary Robert and I were dining at an intimate little Italian restaurant where the ambiance is good and the food even better. The only unfortunate part of the atmosphere (to our way of thinking) is that they have to have a television for patrons who can't "unplug" for an hour. This evening, however, they were showing a movie which featured a bright yellow Cord Taxi Cab. Since we owned a Cord Supercharged Westchester at the time we found ourselves drawn to the movie... then rushing home to finish viewing it!

Nearly any make of vehicle that you can think of has been converted at one time or another to either a taxi or a police or emergency vehicle. And literature on these otherwise "plain Jane" vehicles stands out as, for example, a Dodge Dart is transformed into a high speed "pursuit vehicle" with lights flashing and a suspect is apprehended.

Or perhaps a brochure causes you to reminisce about that 1986 trip to France and the taxi driver who picked you up at the airport in a Peugeot. He didn't speak much English and you didn't speak much French ...but he came back later to give you a full day cultural tour of Paris, enjoying French cuisine and shopping the Champs Elysees.

Less enjoyable, but perhaps even more memorable, was the ambulance driver who met you at the beach when a family member nearly drowned. His emergency training and skilled driving, which got you to the hospital in record time, probably saved their life.

For literature collectors perhaps the best part of taxi, police and emergency vehicle literature is that much of it is done as "larger-than-life" photo renderings of the vehicles in action:
