Recently the son of a deceased literature collector approached us with an impressive collection of Ford literature starting in the late 1920s. It has been a long time since we have had an opportunity to purchase a good collection of old Ford literature, but this collection had a big bonus — old truck brochures. Brochures that I have either not seen before or it has been so long ago that I have forgotten them.

Having driven a 1941 Ford Pickup as a youth on a summer job, and having a neighbor with a restored 1932 roadster and another with a highly modified 1940 coupe, I was a prewar Ford enthusiast in the 1950s. Back then "Hemmings Motor News" was divided into "Ford" and "Other Makes". Ford dominated the old car hobby.

Ford made the V-8 engine popular and those flathead Fords were the basis of many 1950s hot rods. The flathead engine also persuaded many a truck owner to switch to Ford. The literature for these cars and trucks has become rare, especially for the trucks. Take a look at the new Fords, especially the 2006 Fusion, and now look at this 1948 Ford truck brochure. Ford's "Better Idea" appears to be an old idea — but it was a good design.
