Iron Curtain Literature
By Sharon McLellan

Over the years we have been fortunate in finding very rare (to us at least) literature from countries throughout the world for our collection. Some of the most interesting and colorful literature comes from places you might least expect — Russia, Czechoslovakia, Poland... The cars and trucks are nearly always compact, but the literature makes them seem larger than life.

Perhaps even more interesting than the cars themselves are the lifestyles that they depict. In retrospect, what I would have thought in the 1960s about people in "Iron Curtain" countries and what they were doing probably had little basis in reality (think heavy fur coats and hats and Doctor Zhivago). Brochures portray them going to the airport in their vans, shopping, picnicking at the lake and going to parties — just like you and I were doing. Here is your opportunity to immerse yourself in these cultures through their literature:

If you like what you see here, you will be interested in new literature that will be presented on our December 2006 Updates List — watch for it!
