More and more automotive publications
are including photographs of old car literature or the
pictures shown in those brochures. Over the last few
years KP Books (Krause Publications), publisher of "Old
Cars Weekly" and dozens of automotive books, turned
to McLellan's Automotive History (MAH) as a source of
contemporary photographs of cars and brochures. Their
two recent books, Porsche: The Ultimate Guide
by Scott Faragher and Standard Catalog of Volkswagen:
1946-2004 by John Gunnell, feature MAH photographs
which the publisher provided to the authors. Not restored
cars, but original cars. Why not restored? Simply because
they would not always be restored to 100% accuracy.
Besides, original brochures often include contemporary
backgrounds with people in contemporary dress and scenes
such as buildings and streets the way they were when
the cars were new. A 50-year-old car looks more appealing
when it appears in a 50-year-old setting.

With over 100,000 brochures on their
web site from flyers, folders and catalogs to
press kits and often with more than one photograph
of each item, MAH has become a major supplier of old
car photographs for books, magazines, newspapers and
web sites. Never one to pass up publicity, MAH offers
their services free to editors of publications and to
hobbyists for web sites and asks only for credit for
use of the photographs.
If you don't see the views you need, just ask.
Most brochures have multiple photographs dispersed throughout,
showing various models' exteriors and interiors, scenic
action shots, poses with people, sports activities,
famous landmarks and hundreds of other interesting and
exciting possibilities. In addition to photographs there
are photo renderings and art renderings. An excellent
way to make an article or a web site come alive.
