Frequently our articles focus on how
to decide what you want to collect. There are many different
types of collections and none are "wrong".
Examples of key words you might focus on are "Limited
Edition" and/or "Anniversary Edition".
Any time you see those words the value of a brochure
increases by 50% to 100%. Why?
A good example is the 1982 Alfa
Romeo Balocco SE with production limited to only
350 cars.
Number of Brochures Printed
First and foremost, if a car is limited production
we know that the number of brochures printed to
advertise the car will also be limited. Therefore,
there won't be enough brochures to go around for
every collector who wants one. So when he finds
the brochure later he will be willing to pay more
for it than he would for one that is more common.
Uniqueness
Ordinarily we would not think of 4-wheel drive
vehicles when we talk about collectible literature.
But when you add "Lamborghini" to the
title of the brochure you know automatically that
the Lamborghini LM002 is going to be a unique,
desirable vehicle and that the literature on it
will be hard to find.
High Performance Modifications
Hennessey, Custom Auto Specialties, Rinspeed,
Saleen, Hurst and ASC/McLaren are names that come
to mind when high performance is mentioned. Any
standard car which is adopted by one of these
companies and modified to their specifications
becomes unique and the literature is impressive
and highly collectible. A good example of this
can be found in the brochure title, "California
Z Hawk: More ZZZap for your Z! with Our Custom
Package. A Limited Edition" by Custom Auto
Specialties, Inc.
Anniversaries
Did the company print a special limited edition brochure
on its 25th, 50th, 75th or 100th Anniversary? If so
that brochure most likely was an "instant collectible".
If you were lucky enough to find one you knew immediately
that this was a treasure worth preserving.
